The Somali Bantu Community in Kentucky became a 501 c 3 in 2006, and has built a strong community base with the 4,000 Somali-Bantu now living in Louisville. We have a dedicated community based organization with has not only supported self-sufficiency in the Bantu community, but also to other newer ethnic community groups in Louisville, including the Bhutanese and Burundian communities.
Our mission is to serve, organize, and advocate on behalf of the Somali Bantus and other refugee and immigrant communities living in or near Louisville, Kentucky.
The SBCK strives to empower these groups to gain access to resources, to work toward acculturation and ultimately to achieve self-sufficiency.
We are not focusing on just one refugee community –we are here to help any and all refugees and immigrants, and will provide services wherever there is a need.
SBCK envisions a thriving, self-sufficient community where pre-literate refugees and individuals with limited English proficiency have equitable access to language education, employment opportunities, and pathways to citizenship.
Through trusted relationships within the Bantu and Burundian communities in Louisville, SBCK aims to expand culturally responsive ESL programming, strengthen community-led outreach, and empower individuals to achieve economic stability, civic engagement, and long-term success.

SBCK has a network of interpreters and translators who are bi-cultural and multilingual
Our interpreters are native to Somalia and Burundi and lived and worked for many years in Kenya and Tanzania.
We provide interpretation and translation services for the following languages:

Kizigua / Zigua
